Is the multiplayer function not working in the current version? If so, any idea when it will be fixed?

The multiplayer mode should work in the latest version. Before you are able to play, someone has to host a game. This has already been discussed here. Then you can connect to the other player.

Unfortunately, there are still some bugs in multiplayer mode.. |
